Derren is not a mentalist per
se, and uses comparitively little mentalism in his
shows. Rather than a mentalism book, try something like
Frogs into Princes or Trance-Formations by Richard
Bandler & John Grinder, and also check out some books on
body language, mind reading and cold reading. Derren
himself swears by Ian Rowland's cold reading book (see
links section) although this is currently out of print.
Alternatively, there is an excellent reading list on the C4
mindcontrol site too, which I believe is also in the links
section too. If not, go to Derren's site and access it
from there.
These will give you a much clearer
insight into what Derren does, or at least a portion of
it, than any mentalism book.
