I couldn't agree more Glyn. Does Derren use
suggestive language and psychological techniques to achieve
his effects? Yes of course, but this is part and
parcel of mentalism. The "mechanics" of his effects are
often coupled with psychological subleties which
transform them into great pieces of mentalism. And, at the
risk of repeating a point made in this group before,
don't be taken in by the presentation. By way of
example, I think it was on MC2 where DB "photoreads" a
book in the British Library. He states that this is
what he is doing but as someone who knows a fair
amount about both photoreading and mentalism I can state
categorically that this is NOT what he is doing. It is a book
test - a good book test, but a book test nevertheless.
