The muddying the water comment was based on the fact that I suspect
that a canny magician would read the postings on here and feel
motivated to join in and help further compound the ridiculous
theories and beliefs that are bandied about. I don't think that you
are a canny magician, though.

Your status as a professional magician was clear to me, thus my
comment about me doubting your claims was designed to be a slightly
sarcastic pointer towards the fact that you don't know as much as
you think you do. Your theory about how the stunt at the dog track
was accomplished was utterly wrong.

response from the teller."

It is an amusing theory. I don't have a theory about how this
actually worked; I know precisely how it worked. No linguistic
tricks, no conditioning of responses. Rather than spelling it out
for you, think about this. The machines in the dog track will not
pay out on a losing ticket. The operator scans the ticket and if it
is a winner, they are told how much to pay out. If the ticket is a
loser the machine will say so. Even if the operator was convinced
that the ticket was a winning one, the machine would still say it
was a loser. Period. Do you think that linguistic tricks or whatever
work on machines?
