Subject: hypnosis 101?
This is a very simple question which I hope can be answered by some
of the practicing hypnotists out there, and Im sure many of the
newbies to this group would also love to see an answer.
What exactly is needed to hypnotise a person rapidly?
From the many sources I have read on the subject (including Ormond
McGills encyclopaedia which was mentioned in an earlier post),
hypnosis is simply brought about by suggestion and repeating phrases
such as "you are getting sleepy" or "your eyelids are getting heavy".
I can honestly say without even trying that if I suggested this to
any of my friends they would not go under and may even start laughing
at me after a while (even if they started out with a serious mind
towards it!) From what I gather, saying these phrases should
hypnotise somebody (at least make them more suggestible) within a
minute or so. I find this very hard to believe and maybe I should
just go to a hypnotist to find out the truth.
Anyway is there anything else besides suggestion and of course a
confident attitude that I am missing in these inductions?
