As Ant mentioned a big part of hypnosis is expectation. You cannot
hypnoise someone against their will, you can however catch them off
gaurd. So in the case of your friends saying you can't hypnotise me
and then laughing at your suggestions they are correct - you probably
(well an amateur anyway) could not hypnotise them. Many stage
hypnotists rapidly induce someone by grabbing them and jerking them
while shouting sleep. THis will not however work if you go up 2 a
friend and grab them and yell sleep (they'll probably hit u lol!),
first the hypnotist gais rapport with the audience and puts them into
a trance through conversation i.e. not with diret hypnosis references
but s/he confuses the brain ( a great example of this is Marshal
Sylver , watch him perform and then watch the audince if u get a
chance they are all concentrating directly on him - even journalists
taking notes stop and watch) the hypnotist looks for someone who he
feels is responding to his suggestion and then uses a near
instant 'shock' induction to put them under. Watch the Louis Theroux
episode with hypnotist (u also c Ross Sleaze ball Jeffries!) Marshal
says to Loux at one point " U no wots going to happen now dont u"?
and louis smiles, just be for he can anser Marshal shouts "its called
SLEEP" and he goes out like a light. Fascinating stuff.
Hope this is of some help (god knows it took long enough to
write!!!!!!!)
