did anyone else think that Derren really didn't need
to ask that
model if he'd read what she was thinking since she was
on the other
side of the room screaming 'oh my god' and flapping
her arms around?

Yeah he did actually,
Cuz that wasn't a real memory, it was just a trance
out thingy.

How he did those 3 tricks last night:

For the telepathic cards he was referencing the ONE
card using body language and syntatic ambiguities,
then he was referencing the FIRST card and using the
FOLLOW THE LEADER technique he uses in MC2 at the
football grounds. Simple, but the presentation is
completely misleading! Its a good idea to use a trick
that's easy and will work first, makes audience more
open to the later, more difficult ones.

For the memory one, you need to look at it again
carefully. Notice he uses an anchor for "created past
visualisation" he builds that anchor (cue: rubbing
nose) sets it up with some traditional cold reading
and then fires it off. He needs to keep her in the
state long enuf for her reaction to set. (notice he's
firing another anchor here, using the
david-grey-on-speedesque HEAD NOD as a trigger, i'm
not sure what state he's firing off, but it's probably
a "THIS WORKS, IT IS TRUE!" programme) This is his
most complicated trick he does and one of the few I
haven't managed to do properly yet. I suppose it's
just a matter of practice. He uses this same
alteration technique for the Orson Wells trick. (look
at it again and notice the references to ORR
SSSSSOOOOON WWWWEEEE LLLLLS (phonetic sounds), then
set up the created one, talk some shite about anything
and fire it at the end...) The most "difficult" trick
I have seen him do so far. The guy's a brilliant
nutter! I love it!

The third is a perfect example of misdirection and
deception, and FANTASTIC performance! All that shite
about telepathy from the audience is BOLLIX! all he
does is say something to Sarah Cox like: "it's not a
simple thing like a house or a shape or a stick
man.... no, it's more obscure than... than that. so
just C-lear (you can anchor this C) your mind and let
it C-ome (he anchored one of the "C"'s by touching
her on the shoulder) to you." if you're just trying
this out for the first time you may want to add
something to your audience instructions like "drive
your thoughts into her mind" and anchor that (don't
forget that anchors need to be fired off to have an
effect!) That stuff he talked about in the Mind
Control night on E4 about "the guy recognised my
accent" isn't true... but almost credible in the same
way his "throat reading" explanation is (i noticed you
fell for that one Blue chip!) Maybe instead of giving
away all these tricks I could sell them away... hmm...

P.s. if anyone's from dublin here, there was a guy on
grafton street doing simple david blaine stuff
yesterday. I felt like installing a few "i'm going to
muck up every trick" programmes.. but then.. that
would be a bit too Bandlerish.. and besides, he was
doing a great job on the paper levitation!

Happy Hunting,

Steve.
