No need to apologise Gordon, I read your post in
the way it was intended.
I am aware that
magicians are an elitist bunch but there are good reasons
for that. If everyone knew our methods we would have
no audience. The very fact that we do the seemingly
impossible using apparently fair and open methods is the
fundamental basis of everything we do.
I also
appreciate that the standard of discussion on this board is
high of late, but I don't think you will get any real
world mentalists telling you their methods here. This
is an open access fan site, and not an appropriate
place to discuss the finer points of book tests. There
are plenty of magic discussion boards out there with
closed access who discuss these things to the nth
degree. If you are serious about finding out more about
mentalism I would suggest you pay these places a
visit.
From my own prespective, I am here to see how people
respond to good performance. It's one thing to hear
magicians and mentalists talk about Derren, but I am more
interested in seeing how people without a background in
magic respond to his work. Method does not interest me
too much - I have a bookcase full of methods, half of
which I have not read and 99% I will never use in
performance.
