"I am sorry, but you must understand the
frustration, that when we attempt to solve a trick and someone
is simply just watching people waste days on it,
when they have in their capacity, the ability to
help"

I see where you are coming from. If I can help, I
will. I certainly won't stand by and watch you bark up
the wrong tree if I know the answer myself. However,
a lot of Derren's work baffles me so my theories
will be no better or worse than anyone else.

I
do moderate the magictricks.co.uk boards. The
Restricted Area has excellent levels of discussion but it's
almost impossible to get invited in there these days and
lately people have been booted out. The rest of the
boards occasionally have good threads, but there is a
lot of drivel there too. Also, the interests of the
members is more centred around magic although I have
noticed a distrubing trend whereby lots of people
proclaim they are now mentalists. A year ago every man and
his dog wanted to be David Blaine. Now they all want
to be Derren Brown. No doubt next year it will be
someone else.

Mentalism is one of the most
challenging genres to perform in as it depends almost
entirely on good presentation for its impact. If people
don't believe you are reading minds or using psychology
to divine information, then they will dismiss you as
someone who just performs clever tricks.

There are
2 boards on yahoo devoted to mentalism, which have
closed membership and will be meaningless to you unless
you perform. Both are made up of professional
performers, some who are well known. DB used to post
regularly in one of them until January when he left the
group. He does wander around yahoo and probably reads
this group too.
