The people that I know are not interested in any of what Derren does, or Derren
at all, and I am having trouble trying it on myself too. So what can I do?

The hand clasp is always a popular test for suggestability or
induction amoungst hypnotists. Get someone to perform the hand
clasp on you, rather than struggle with self suggestion. Once it
works you can suggest it to yourself easily. Make sure your palms
are together and your grip is tight.
