Subject: Re: [Derren Brown] various

Hi,

I know some are going to say they enjoy the off topic emails, and some of
those people contribute a lot, so why not simply put "OT" in the subject
header from now on. Those of us who only want the derren related emails
then we're able to use a mail filter to bin the off-topic ones.

Personally I think it's great that people are reverse engineering and
sharing the techniques used by derren brown. Someone talked about exposure.
What magicians dislike about exposure is that it ruins the effect for
non-magicians, but it seems as though most people who have joined the group
have a deeper interest than knowing how it's done, and are wanting to
develop these kinds of skills for themselves. What harm can that do
(headache ind. excluded!)? In the case of derren's material, knowing how it
works can make it even more fascinating as it's a geniune skill and not
magic using gimmicked props.

Magic can be extremely old fashioned, and I think the genius in Mind Control
is the way that Derren has dropped the tired Paul Daniels "now that's magic"
tip in favour of teasing his audience with possible theories/solutions.
This is why we have so many intrigued people on here on this group who can
actually relate to Derren's work and want to know more. For me it's
regenerated an interest in magic I had when I was a kid, and I'd been
interested in NLP a few years ago but never really followed it through. I'm
sure he'd be flattered if he knew how much time we all spent rewinding our
videos in order to try and figure it out!

Just my 2 Euro cents.

Paulo

P.S. I heard yesterday that a friend of mine was boom-op (sound) for some
of mind control, so I'll try and find out if he saw anything that was edited
out!

1. A subject was brought up about limiting lurkers and putting
safety precautions in for children. One of the points raised was to
remove members for not posting emails (the lurkers). I am totally
against this. One of the main reasons for this is that I am
receiving 50 emails a day including such subjects as; which music
album is the best, how to play the piano; who likes the violin?, I
sat in row k at some event next to some person, watch dead poet
society and who can forget the numerous Sherlock Holmes, as you
probably know the list goes on. So how about limiting this stuff to
private email and save the rest of us time.
