Subject: Derren's Trick with Sue on RI:SE
Why did Sue draw a dog on RI:SE ?
I cannot fathom - I tried it on a friend and he drew a mountain
I've been thinking about this for ages, I didn't see a dog either !
for those of you who can't remember how it went - please see below :
(Trick with Sue – Derren has drawn a picture of a dog.)
Derren: Rather than you drawing it I'm going to get you to draw a
picture. I have drawn a picture, which I haven't let you see. To be
absolutely clear I have not told you what to draw, I haven't shown
you.I'm going to give you a pad and pen; now this is a bit weird I'm
going to ask you to bear with me. I'm going to ask you to close your
eyes for me. I'm going to show the audience what this picture is.
I'm not going to let you see either (to Mel) Just a simple drawing.
It's a drawing of something, Sue but its nothing too obvious like a
house or a stick man. I'm going to give you five seconds in those
five seconds you must scream at sue in your mind not out loud okay
what the picture is. And then sue you just build a picture in your
mind of what this picture is absolutely scream it at her over again.
And Sue I want you to draw the picture.
Five seconds to go, not out loud, five... Quick as you can.
(When it is over, Sue reveals a picture of a dog almost identical to
Derren's sketch.)
Mel: I'm scared!
Derren: Why did you think of dog?
Sue: It's all I have in my life Derren...
Mel: But how did you know that she would draw it like that?
Derren: If you watch this tape over and over again and listen to the
words I'm using then you'll know.
