Blah Blah Blah....
Sorry that was rude but..

Loads of proper mentalists have resigned Derrens stuff to being well
dresssed slight of hand or something other than than the pyscho techniques
that he says he is using. Thinking about it really we all know that its
somewhere in between. No one can say he doenst use any NLP/suggestion
techniques because he blatently does, okay sometimes its for the method like
the forgetting station or the shopping center,or the radio 1 stunt where he
did a fascinating suggestibility test type thing. Sometimes the NLP is the
presentation the line is very blurred and I dont claim to know where the
psychology ends and the trickery begins... I do know however that there
probably only three or four people who do know exactly Derren and his mates.
Not I think if you secured one truthful answer from Derren you should ask
whether he considers that the suggestive elements of his act are based on
NLP he would likely say no because NLP is simply a supped up derivative of
other older and somewhat less evangelised reliable techniques.

Too many magicians and mentalists will write off Derrens explanations of NLP
as nothing more than exquisite presentation but can they really say what the
real methods are. My friend can do derrens coin in the hand trick with above
90% accuracy from from watching and thinking derren do it. Then a mentalist
comes along and say's I know how thats done its a gimmick coin and a switch
at the right moment...it could well be, who knows for sure?

For those of us that are broad minded enought to be open to every
possibility until you get know for sure then i suggest you're mindset should
absolutely be one of utter conviction in the fact that you will never find
out for sure how he does it and the best you can achieve is to figure out,
using all the resources available to you, how you would do it?

An Anchor is just a fancy NLP word for An Association is just a fancy
psychology word for the effects of Ivan Pavlov's classical conditioning
which has been utilised by therapists since its discovery in the early 19th
century.

When you reach the end of this line you will have a new insight, a new
feeling of a level of understanding and still more curiosity.

Incidentally the old magic, real wizards and people that used to get burnt
at the stake for their activities, used hypnotic suggestion, hallucination's
etc to convince people of their abilities only they would use plants like
henbane, nightshade to first induce an extremely suggestible state.

I cant get over the reality of the hypnotically induced hallucinations of
cups moving and spoons bending, he did that just by building up the
curiousity and excitement and thats amazing on the telly. Those girls did
not know what happened to them. The induction of positive or negative visual
hallucinations is not easy because it is the one type of hallucination that
is most destructive of reality values. If you want someone to experience
visual hallucination then the setting must be just so.... look at that clip
again and realise what derren has done to ensure that the hallucinations are
easy to establish. Or forget that and ask what sleight of hand could produce
that effect.

If you want to get someone to duplicate a particular drawing like Derren did
on ri:se then read up on cue dependant theory of memory. Its simply a case
of setting up in advance the drawing and the cues and then cueing them off
the right time with whatever cues you prepere, vocal, or otherwise.

If you want to get someone to forget their own name on the tip of the tongue
then read some of the hundreds of man hours of psychological investigation
into the TOT phenomena alot of which is available on line. You will quickly
realise the conditions that encourage the TOT or tip of the tongue problem
are related to displacement, confusion, phonological similarities like rhyming
words and yes some suggestion. Ormond McGill was the first author to suggest
that public transport is a great place to try this because people are
already internally focused, years ago.

BTW and this is it, If you ever see Derren using any kind of cards watch out
because thats when hes going to get you with his most subliminal and
effective stunts.

Finally I'm going to ask you to think of a picture it can be anything,
something you might or might not see each day. a person, maybe god or a
landscape of a church on a hill, ensure its black and white yes thats it
what is it. Write me back with the answer.

Phil
