I can personally vouch for Baby-Signing. We bought a book (title
forgotten, sorry) when our baby was born, and found it invaluable. We
taught Hannah the signs for milk, drink, food, nappy etc. Took all
the guesswork out of why she was agitated. A lot of the crying seems
to be frustration, they can't do anything about their hunger or
discomfort, and they can't tell anyone about it.
It helps verbal development, too; at 28 months she's now got a wider
vocabulary than her cousin of 36 months.
If you have or are expecting a baby, I can't recommend it enough.
