Most narrow minded of you.
I consider that as I am more of a lurker than most that wasn't directed
directly at myself.
I am however gonna respond.
This is a fan club if it is anything. It is not a place to dismantle
building's or performances of any sort.
Anything that is said here is said as a result of being stunned by one of
derrens performances.
There are no vultures here only fans.
There are many different people who do many different things, each of those
things that are done has some people who are the best at it. These are known
to the majority as the proffessionals in their respective
art/sport/business.
Grown men gather on a field and play football after being impressed by the
antics of the pro's.
Everyone buy's a little music in their life and many musicians only learn to
be able to play the songs of their peers, never composing their own.
We dont criticise them because what they do is within the sphere of what
everyone can do if they care to learn.
The art of psychic or 'psychological' entertaiment, however you care to
define it, apparently needs to have a seperate set of rules than the art of
musical entertainment because the entertainment value in itself lies only in
the secrets.
This is not a magicians discussion forum, some of those here do not concern
ourselves with the ethics of revealiing a performers secret's
If you perform magic and mentalism you want people to be not only
entertained but also mystified....manipulation of awe and wonder is your
career.
You absolutely CANNOT POSSIBLY be seriously saying that people shouldnt get
together to try and figure out these tricks.
Derren is soo convincing.. many people have left his shows believing that
photoreading is possible, many of those people were students some were
researchers and I think one at least was a librarian. Are youy seriously
expecting students who would really benefit, not to go away and find out if
its really possible.
There was a time when I absolutely shit myself thinking what else does my
face give away. Derren has told the world that their innermost secrets are
not safe when he is around. I have a right to the desire to go out and find
out to what extent this is possible and to share my views with others.
It is apparent that you are yourself a mentalistic, why then are you here?
This is not a mentalists forum. Did you come to find out if we had found out
any secrets that you might be able to find? apparently that is against your
ethics as a performer.
Did you come then simply to criticise people who are ultimately the
expression of Derrens biggest collection of fans.
Criticse what exactly criticise us for doing exactly what Derren intended
his fans to do, be completely baffled and try and figure out how the hell
that works.
So why do you come here?
I am not at any 'performance level' I do not intend to go to any
'performance level' but if its possible to block out pain on purpose then I
have a right to know how. If its not psychic and you can read thoughts just
by looking then I'm gonna find out how many other people are doing this.
I think your posting was rather unthoughtful, you didn't consider who your
audience was. Too many mentalists and magicians come to this board and worry
about secrets being divulged and future performances being ruined.
Tell me where would you like your fan club too gather when you hit the big
time? nowhere....and what would you like them too discuss, your goatee
beard? Or would you prefer not too have a fan club?
I hope you are open too my points.
The very nature of mentalism is to get people to ask how? no...
Something that strikes me about this board is that many people have
dissected exactly how derren does his paper scissors stone routine and yet
nobody has come back and said - I did it and baffled my colleagues or
family. Or "I did that trick Derren did, i made my girlfriend forget her
name.." nobody does it... they only try to figure out how he did it. Once
I've figured it out what next... Is anyone running around shouting "Derren
Brown is a fraud..." No
Also being as I'm airing some views, I wish magician's would stop coming in
here and saying " no thats not how its done..." or "thats an old trick
revamped"
If you want to discuss how it works this is the place, if not go somewhere
else...
I cant believe I wasted more time responding to your ignorant view than it
probably took you too write it.
Hope you found what I wrote interesting, god know's I've spent all my money
on books to tell me how to say interesting things....
