The problem, put simpley, is this:

This is an open forum, can be spidered by search engined, and as
such can be accessed and joined by anyone.

What's the problem with this? Well, magic as an art suffers. People
go to see people like Derren Brown to be entertained. If someone at
a click of the mouse can find out just out of idle curiosity "how
its done" this takes away substantially from the entertainment...and
the chances are such are person is going to be a bit of blabber-
mouth and say something to the effect "ahh, that's easy, all he's
doing is..." and ruin the entertainment for everyone else. There are
tons of other reasons such as professionalism, ethics, IP rights.
Every magician/mentalist worth his or her salt knows the reasons for
keeping secrets. If there is a need to discuss methods the time-old
tradition of consulting with your peers is adequate.

Fortunately, most of the discussion of methods here, just further
perpetuates the 'cover' that Derren uses. This is a good thing.

What I am suggesting, really, is that those people who are
*genuinely* interested in the sort of thing that Derren is doing is
to research and learn mentalism properly. If they do, they can end
the false speculation, and will have a far greater appreciation of
the lengths Derren goes to dress up and re-work an effect (most of
which is very well presented standard mentalism). Once the
speculators start doing this (which does require a certain amount of
investment and dedication) then the focus of discussion will change
and there will STILL be plenty to talk about...Including Derren
Brown.
