I have a sneaking suspicion that the first claim (camera doesn't follow, out of
earshot) may well have been nothing more than Derren asking for some change.
Plus, if this is the same woman who appeared to be 'in on it' when we actually
see Derren do the 'suggestion' - maybe the first, out-of-earshot encounter was
where he made her party to the deception. Instant stooge. That's my theory.
