Subject: Re: General stuff on MC3
Hi, I'm new to this group (excellent group BTW) and thought I'd just offer some
thoughts on MC3. Apologies if this has been gone over before, not sifted
through the archives....
Re the Spearmint Rhino 'touch' - how this may have been accomplished. How about
a short piece of invisible thread gripped between DB's fingers, dangling down?
Given the dark surroundings, it would almost certainly go unnoticed by the two
observers. And given the heightened sense of expectation, anticipation (note
how he suggests being touched beforehand), any contact at all would be
perceived more acutely than in normal situations. So his tapping motion causes
the thread to briefly make contact with the hand, the subject's mind does the
rest. It's interesting how the second subject correctly identifies the position
of contact - I'm sure the *very* slight air disturbance the hand causes in
'tapping' wouldn't localise itself that precisely.
The greyhound track. Notice that when Derren cashes the worthless ticket, the
winning dog was on all occasions No 4. I'm fairly sure on this (you even catch
a glimpse of the winning dog on a 'podium' with it's No. 4 jacket on at one
point). Why No. 4? Necessary for the suggestion - "This is the dog you're
looking for/four". Also, I'll have to watch the vid again but I'm sure the
timing of the interrupt/suggestion is critical. I wonder if the bang/suggestion
is given just before the ticket is checked? The pattern that's being
interrupted here is obvious - the checking of the ticket. How many times do you
think they do this? Almost without thinking, you might say. Interrupt it, put
your suggestion in - "...for/four" and you're away. Plus you don't really know
how many times he attempted it, what the hit/miss ration *really* is.
The coin head/tail guessing - fairly sure it's a double header. He specifies a
pound coin, the switch is made just out of camera shot at the end (Derren goes
to pocket it - "Hey that's my pound..."). All he had to was suggest 'heads' to
his (carefully chosen) victim, no problem. "Is it *heads* (rise) or is it tails
(fall)". It's only a 50/50 shot, subject has been put in a particularly
receptive frame of mind with the patter.
Love to hear any more thoughts,
john
