no - dog #4 comes *first* each time. "this is the dog you're looking for" =
"this slip is for dog #4". doesn't matter what the losing dog number is, the
point is to persuade the cashier that his ticket is for dog #4 (the winner).
wouldn't take too many races to find a winner or two at #4 - don't they
normally put the favourites in the centre lanes? once he has a race where the
winner was #4 (with the losing bet on any other dog), the suggestion can be
used.

I'm quite sure these are different techniques - the needle thru hand had wasn't
a snap induction by any means. i don't think he could have got the cashier to
push a needle through her hand as easily as he made her pay out on a losing
slip, do you?

oh, I'm aware of the techniques used in guessing the hand, it's just the
heads/tails aspect that is a bit of a 'cheat'.
