Subject: The shoe tying handshake interrupt induction

That reminds me of an amusing application.....

Patterns volume 2 covers handshake interruption and TOTE, and has an
interesting story about bending down to tie your shoelace when a
subject extends their hand, this elicits a confusional technique, and
can be used as a platform for delivering the initial hypnotic
suggestion. I have never tried this one, but i would imagine, it is
very amusing to witness !!!

I know that this is never a good idea on message boards, but may i
disagree with Mark, and state that fear, authority and expectation
can also often be used very effectively to influence people. I know
what mark is getting at and i totally agree that rapport puts people
at ease and often that is the most desirable state when using
hypnosis in a clinical sense, moving it out of that context and into
a stage hypnosis environment, many hypnotists use
authoritarian/command and bewilderment approaches, this allows for,
dare is say it possibly more 'control/influence' on your subjects.
It was common for hypnotist(50-100 years ago), in the second half of
their show to walk through the audience and look for the people who
were totally freaked/terrified and then to wrap their head using the
back of their hand and command SLEEP, this elicited very profound
hypnosis. Remember those dodgy faith healers, "You have been healed
my brother !!!", this, as I have mentioned before, just another
application of this technique.

As I stated very early on, post 20 or so, my interest is on rapid
induction, which often involves shock/interrupt induction. I have a
nice induction my own which may be of interest to performing
mentalists. Using a `pack/cut' of playing cards, align them side by
side face down, and have the subject slowly flip each one over
(focuses attention), and creates very rapidly automatic behaviour,
when the subject gets to the last card, preferably "ace of spades",
after it has been turned and their hand is withdrawing, interrupt it
by leaning forward grabbing their hand, looking directly at them
place your other hand very quickly over their eyes, meaning that they
cannot re-alert themselves whilst commanding "SLEEP NOW".

As, you probably gather, most of my posts talk about ideomotor
responses,(my preferred ,method of induction. I have however spent
some time on the induction and given it several variations mainly

2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,A

I am also trying to decide whether it is better or not to have a flow
(1,2,3..), which further adds to the automatic behaviour
conditioning, and to introduce the confusion/interrupt at the end
with the ACE, or to have a random set of cards, have the turns
slower, building to expectation, and to interrupt before the last
card, is turned. I also swithered(not tested) about having "SLEEP"
written on the last card, and reinforcing it with the interrupt. i.e
6..7...8,SLEEP

One of McGill's indcutions used SLEEP,SLEEP cue cards, although I
have never tried this method I liked the idea of having an induction
combined with the internal dialog of the word 'SLEEP' written on the
card.

Anyway, comments would be appreciated, as I have found both methods
effective.

If anyone else has the time to play around with it, feedback would be
good.
