Along time ago Milton Erickson carried out
experiments into whether hypnosis could be used to control
people.
I refer you to "Open to Suggestion" by Robert
Temple. True, if you give someone a suggestion to shot a
dog, they are likely to reject it.
As I understand
it though, if you give the person appropriate
hallucinations to the effect that the dog is attacking them,
they can be persuaded to shoot the dog.
Would I be
right in saying that /no-one/ knows whether hypnosis
can be used to make someone rob a bank. In "Open to
Suggestion" it is conjectured that Erickson's experiment was
flawed as he did not try to alter the 'victim's'
perceptions to make their actions acceptable.
