Well I read a little abut NLP on the net and I am
thinking of taking a course, from what I have read the
memory trick seem to be achieved by changing the
position of the eyes in accordance to their relative brain
areas.
NLP believes that your eyes access certain area of
the brain the top right hand corner is memory I think
and the bottom left is imagination (I'm not sure
about that, you'll have to look it up). When Derren is
talking to the subject he locks eyes so that the subject
listens to what he has to say. He then tell them that
they will forget and while still having their eyes
locked he moves his hand from the top right-hand corner
of their vision to the bottom left. Their eyes will
follow the hand as they are thinking of the information
they will forget and so the information is moved from
the memory to the imagination and Derren then tells
them that they will forget so they imagine they will
forget.
When he then asks them to tell him the information it
is not longer stored in the memory but instead is in
the imagination so their brain can't find it where it
should be. It's like someone taking a book out of a
library with out leaving a note to where they have taken
it.

He then returns it to the centre of the vision
(don't know the corresponding brain area) and the memory
is found.

I think that's how he does that
one. Not sure about the card game, that probably
involves advanced NLP, which I have no knowledge
of.
