Subject: Hello everyone I'm new.
Hi, my name is chris and I'm new here. I have
been a fan of Derren's since seeing the second show on
C4 and would like to learn his
techniques.
I'm also a psychology student and do a little
clinical hypnotherapy. I have been reading a few post and
you all seem to have some trouble with the fact that
you don't know what hypnosis actually is. Derren
doesn't use hypnosis in his act it is suggestion. If any
of you have been hypnotised you'll know that your
conscious all the time and able to discount anything that
is told to you if you so wish. All hypnosis really
is, is a heighten state of relaxation to allow
suggestion to be more firmly imbedded into the subconscious
mind.
Suggestion is subtler and the effect is really just a
psychosomatic response. If you sell the idea that the
suggestion will work than the person will do as you ask.
Also in the case of stage hypnosis (which there is
really no such thing) you just suggest to people that
you're going to hypnotise them and make them do thing
because of hypnosis. You, in fact, are choosing people
with a genital personality type who are more willing
to be made fool out of for attention and so will
probably do as you ask anyway just to be the centre of
attention.
