Yeah, I know what you mean about the 'invisible
force' which lingers after you've pressed your palms
together, and it is plausible that the ghost punch is some
sort of extrapolation on this technique. I don't buy
the suggestion that Archie is a stooge though because
Derren didn't select him, the kung fu master
did.

My guess is this: We all know that the 'invisible
force' in the palm pressing exercise is caused by our
arm muscles continuing to exert and being locked into
a certain pattern of movement/exertion....could the
same thing also be true of our abdominal muscles?
Would Derren be able to replicate this effect on an
overweight couch potato who lacks both the muscular
conditioning and the experience of being kicked or punched
full-force in the gut as most martial arts students
do?

Personally, I still think it has a lot to do with mirroring
breathing....otherwise, how could he be aware of the punch behind the
back (which knocks him backwards, NOT forwards, as one
might expect of a rear strike)

Come
on....someone must know!!!
