Subject: Re: Derren's nod

Thats a great point Simon, thank you for being
open enough to share it with us, I read research some
time ago from an American university who got subjects
to listen to some taped speech give by a politician,
whilst they listened they were to nod their heads
continuously, some time afterwards the students were questioned
on various aspects of the speech to establish if
they were in agreement with it or not, the results
were quite incredible (95%) We respond to head nods as
a patterned response, almost like a forced
agreement when we are unsure-unless you are particularly
very strongly motivated to do otherwise. It's
interesting to look for the implication included in the
message, not just the words but the non verbal aspects
too, if you pay attention to the vast array of
financial services advertised you will begin to notice how
many are advertised with Scottish accents, the
implication being that Scots are tight with money, therefore,
this is a good deal that you can trust-you cant get
more canny than a Scottish widow can you? Listen
out.Is it Churchill insurance who give you a little
nodding dog for the back of your car so that when you see
it from behind the car you think "Churchill" and
then you nod along with the dog? But thats just
something to chew over???
