Hmm...Gordo ala Moore what you say and its
relationship to the betting slip trick isn't clear to me, but
this may be because my knowledge of hypnotism is too
low level.

As far as I remember the trick was
performed three times:

First, DB returned with some
money (presumably we saw it paid out by the cashier -
we didn't see any slip he presented, or hear the
encounter NB I am not necessarily suggesting that he
presented a substituted winning slip or produced the money
from elsewhere than the cashier, I'm just trying to be
precise).

Second, the punter, as instructed by DB and with DB in
attendance, looked 'into her [the cashier's] eyes', said
'This is the winning ticket', and passed over the slip
(in that order I think - it seems to make more sense
that way). After some dissent from the cashier DB
quickly said something close to 'check again, this is the
ticket' and shortly afterwards 'it's easy to misread
these things'.

During the third encounter,
following the cashiers dissent, DB quickly slapped the
frame of the window and said 'check again, this is the
dog you are looking for, that is why we're at this
window'. As before he then excused her 'error'.

I
am posting these accounts so that they may be
contradicted and corrected, and so that discussion can be
based on them.

Can't they be interpreted simply
as examples of obedience? (Milgram's experiments are
after all the most famous in modern Psychology) DB
himself said to the punter that people do what they're
told!
