The moderation is simple...
I stripped "john"s three-page hard-sell advert - and replaced it with "I'm
selling my ideas, please email me if interested"
...For this he was moderated (as per introductory letter)
...and started sending some of the must abusive posts I have ever read on a
public newsgroup
...After several of these, I banned him from posting to the group at all
...the abuse continued in, now, private emails
...after a couple of threats from him, I did a bit of research and turned
up his address
...next he created any number of new accounts and spammed the "unofficial"
group with endless "Bluchip is a <insert favourite insult here>" etc.
...I know they are all him, because all the posts/emails received reverse
to the same address
...So, the group is primarily moderated to stop "john" from filling your
inbox with streams of verbal abuse.
...I put new members on default=moderated to stop "john" from creating more
new accounts and spamming any more.
...sadly, because of how yahoo works, this means that I had to moderate
EVERYONE! and now have to unmoderate people one at a time - and this is a
time consuming task which requires **web access**
..."John" how now obtained another alias, and spammed a private email to
the "unofficial" members telling them to come and join his new
"unmoderated" group (complete with more "we hate Bluechip" verbiage)
...I am still receiving threats and general abuse.
...Understand when I say, "I am bored with this myself", if you can think
of a better solution do not hesitate to present it.
For the record I would classify "have you chatted to some_random_user" as
Off-Topic "fan chat", and suggested it would be better discussed on the
"official" chat forum.
And errr, Queenie, where are you diaries?
(that's a black adder joke and a hypnosis joke based on the paragraph below
- before anyone gets upset by the possible misinferences available for the
word "queen")
