Subject: Who am I angry with ?
Just to clarify, it is NOT Lauren that I am angry with.
I recognise that Lauren is:
1) a devoted Derren Fan who we need to thank for this group.
2) her decision to do things the way she did was INFLUENCED.
3) as paid professionals the people Derren's management employed to
transfer should have known better. If they had posted a message on
their website and in this group INVITING people to join and a
statement had been made that this group was to close down everyone
would have had a choice.
Here you have a community to which people have contributed to on a
voluntary basis.
An autocratic style and disregard for the laws surrounding data
collection & storage (primarily the Data Protection Act) is a BAD
idea. If someone was to take legal proceedings in this matter, there
would definately be a case to answer. I hasten to add that I would
not personally take that approach. For the time being I have not
asked for my email address to be deleted from the Derren website
database. I want to keep on good terms with people, but ownership
needs to be taken for the serious disrespect for an appropriate
procedure that has occurred.
So, finally, Derren's management.. If you want re-establish good
rapport you could post either:
a) message on this board, which would demonstrate you value the
benefits that it has given your organisation.
b) email everyone individually, the flaw here is that you will again
be contacting people have have not opted in to you having their
contact details.
c) post a message on your forum which those accessing the internet
behind certain firewalls etc. will never be able to read.
(Hint: one option will communicate to many, some of who you do not
have email addresses for and this will be of benefit to you.)
