Subject: Eddie Izzard
I went back to the stage door after the Birmingham show to see the weird short
one, curiosity had consumed me and i was driven from my flat at 9.45 ( having
sadly failed to get tickets!) I can assure you that despite being a notoriously
spontaneous person this was too stupid, even for my mind and on my way to the
theatre i gave up and ended up in a bar by the hippodrome, solitary and
debating my mental sanity. I never finished the glass of rioja and decided f**k
it, you only live once and went to the stage door ( wondering if i could sneek
the glass out and drink it on the way!). I feared i had missed the excitment,
since the theatre had all closed up, once again decided to turn back and go
home, then changed my mind again and found the stage door.If CCTV was recording
me on saturday night, i would be locked up in a loony bin somewhere! Felt very
out of place waiting, but was fasinated by DBs consideration to his fans, and
several of them were really probing for answers to certain tricks. I would have
slapped them, but thats why im considered brash!I did eventually get to say hi,
and at this point was gratefull for the half glass of wine. Chatted politly
etc....... Made 3 observations though.....1. It is virtually impossible to tell
when Derren lies, he is a master of deception 2. Many people have said
previously that he is rediculously hyper! So would you be after a solo 2 hour
show! 3. He reminded me of someone, charisma wise...... Eddie Izzard, im not
implying that he wears high heals, is a transvestite or even looks the same,
just the general presence and the charming ,yet humourous banter. Having not
yet seen the performance and only having seen 3 shows on tv, there is no doubt
in my mind. Some people have it, and some dont....It doesnt matter what Derren
turns his hand too, just like Izzard, he'll succeed. What a lucky man ;-) Trust
me, i wouldnt bother leaving my flat at 9.45 to go to a stage door unless i
felt i would regret my lazyiness for a long time to come! This last comment is
a major compliment. For those of you that havent seen Izzard live ( or video)
you obviously havent lived! na na
