Although Dale has obviously caused a stir, I agree - it has indeed made the
group more interesting.

As a human being, we are naturally inquisitive, and so it's understandable
that, in this case, we will want to speculate and figure out how derren's
material is performed. I personally have very few friends who will see a
trick I perform and not want to know the secret. I don't think I'd want to
spend time with people who aren't interested.

How can you suggest that there should be a seperation between exposing the
effects performed that use NLP and those that use so called "magic secrets"?
The very nature of this point is the seed of exposure in itself.

Any magician worth their salt knows that the art of performing a great trick
is not about the secret but about the effect. The touching lap dancers
trick is a perfect example of this. Most people will watch the trick in the
context of a "mind control" show and assume that it is not a traditional
magic trick but some kind of psychological illusion - and it is if you think
about it. The only possible justification for the exposure of derren's NLP
based effects is because he teases with a little exposure on his show. The
reason he does this is clear - it is to add value to the effects that use
other methods.

In the case of a paul daniels show then the prejudices of the audience are
completely different. The set up of Derren's show is a piece of art in
itself. This is why the presentation of magic in this way is absolute
genius.....

Just my 2 ageing lira anyway......

I've not wanted to come here for some time because it all got a bit
googly-eyed, so I applaud D Kingston Esq for spicing it back up a bit.

Also, Dale, I *do* hope Derren includes his ebay tributes in his next
batch of reviews on the website. I can just see it now:

'Genius!' - The Guardian
'Bristol's scariest man' - The Scotsman
'Great trader A+++!!! Very prompt payment! Ebay

I don't know why you lot go overboard on Derren all the time anyway.
Everyone knows Ian Rowland's got a nicer bottom :-)
