This is about respect. When someone with a creative mind spends
hundreds of hours developing, creating, refining and re-refining an
effect they deserve some sort of respect. They have, through their
labour, earned it. The effect is then marketed, a return for their
labours. No one but the creator of an effect has the moral right to
expose it. If you had spent two years refining a card trick only to
have the whole thing broadcast to every magician over the internet
how would you feel. Magicians in general have a great deal of
respect for their collegues.
Yes you can browse the net and purchase books and effects. But you
sare paying for them. And likewise having paid good money you're
not going to blab to all and sundry. When it comes to reading on-
line, for free, how tricks are done, you'll find the real stuff is
just not available.
So at the end of the day, you won't find the above in black and
white in a legal office. You will find it high on the list of a
magicians moral code.
Hey, I could tell you every magical principal and effect Derren used
in 'the second half' but as a magician I'm not going to spoil it.
Nor am I going to undermine the mans creativity that brought that
show together. I don't have the moral right, it's his to give away
not mine.
