Subject: Re: [Derren Brown] Piano Vs Violin...

To hear the violin played well is genuine pleasure, but I think the reason
that there are so few great violin players is because you have be to tone
deaf or a masochist to learn to play one. Having tried once, I found that
the thoroughly rauctious screeching of a badly played violin THAT close to
yur ear was just too much for my nerves.

The piano is by far and away the easiest instrument to learn as you cannot
play a 'bum' note - a 'wrong' note, yes, but not a 'bum' note. The piano
removes that skill from it's players repertoire.

If you are to learn the guitar - I suggest you pick your style carefully
and stick with that one style until you have a good grasp of it. Rhythm,
folk, classical, lead, bass etc.

The main argument of a guitar over a keyboard is portability - you can't
easily take a piano to a friends house.
