It has to be admitted that when Derren is talking about throwing the ball
into the audience to randomly select a person, Steve does look a little
shifty. He pokes his tongue out and does so again, once only; when Derren
asks about, "for the record ....".

Which does make me a little bit suspicious. Still, it is worth exploring the
possibility there wasn't a cheat, because such a method would be Damn cool.
:)

Fertile soil for the imagination,....

For instance what name would you come up with if you were asked to say
"think of someone else" over and over again in your mind. With some
background context to set the scene. "foremost young minds..." "dead male,
caricature". Dead and Male are definitely tonally anchored. It is quite
strange to say "now listen very carefully" before saying .." I'm not even
going to tell you....".
Something you notice when transcribing, is the sheer pace, at which Derren
talks, designed to overload your conscious mind. It is hard to pick out the
exact words spoken consciously.
It is possible that the reason for getting the guy to think of a name, when
he knew it would be a wrong name, is to get a read on the eye accessing.
When the pattern repeats, it is still wrong. Only when there is a pattern
break, has he picked up on what you were saying.
