It sounds like you might be describing an "impressioning pad" -- the magic
doesn't have to be in the paper. Most people are wise to pads that have
carbon paper or something similiar that will retain a copy of a chosen
number or shape. But the clipboard is -- just a clipboard? Or is it? That
bar mat you were leaning on -- that was just a bar mat?
