I think Derren's punching thing works a bit like the arm lift. If you
are rapport with someone, I think you are more likely to be
synchronised and anticipate when they are going to punch. Also, if
you expect to be punched and are up in front of all those people, you
know that Derren isn't going to faff around behind you for half an
hour before he punches. The same thing happened in Mind Control 1
with the young offenders doing to hand lift. The hypnotised guy and
the guy behind him were not completely in sync. Although Derren said
that he could lift his hand whenever he wanted, he knew the guy
wouldn't wait very long to do it. They appear to have a psychic
connection but I think it's just that everyone waits a couple of
seconds before they move. Just my theories anyway.....
