I think when he does the "tractor" trick with the student, the key is
in the blind fold!! Notice how he holds it out in front of the face
of the student for a second or two. It could very well have a small
picture of a tractor on it that would be subconsciously transmitted
to the student as well as derrens verbal cue's as you suggested.
Also with the boxers trying to lift up the girl. This is quite
simple. Whether they can lift the girl up or not, depends on the
posture of the girl. She is obviously one of derrens crew members.
When she stays upright they can lift here. But when she slouches and
creates "dead weight" it makes it MUCH harder for them to lift her.
