trick from the Paul Daniels Magic Annual (1983). First, catch your

*revelation of method*
The trick is called OAR (variations have different names). You will
need an accomplice. Send your accomplice out of the room (you need to
prearrange some things, so read on). Ask a random idiot to choose
from one of three cards that you have laid out, face up (dealt). Note
which card of the three your idiot has chosen. If it is the one on
the left, tell your accomplice "OK, you can come back in now." If it
is the one in the middle, tell your accomplice "Alright, you can come
back in now." If it is the one on the right, tell your
accomplice "Right, you can come back in now". Your accomplice comes
back in, and, according to effect (psychic, "ordinary psychological
means", etc.) instantly knows which card was chosen. How? You have
told him or indeed her that "OK" will signal left, "Alright" will
signal middle, and "Right" will signal right.
Collapse of stout party. Fame assured, nay, guaranteed.
