This was mentioned in a previous post somewhere; in summary, there is a genre
of magic effects called 'book tests', which do have the same effect as the
photoreading one mentioned below. Obviously we don't know if Derren used that
method, or whether he indeed photoread the book, but in either case the effect
is similiar. Any number of these effects are available from magic
shops/sites/books.

In Mind Control 2, Derren does the Photoreading in the British
library with amazing success.

Photoreading supposedly involves mentally photographing the page and
subconsciously reading at 25,000 words per second. It is NOT
speedreading (which involves moving you eyes very fast).

Photoreading involves entering a trance state and gazing at the page
in the same way that you would look at one of those 'magic-eye'
pictures.

Check www.photoreading.com for more info.

Anyway, my question is - has anyone tried this? Is it a scam? I know
we 'saw' Derren doing it on telly, but was he really just using
another technique to give the illusion that he had memorized the book
in 20 minutes, when in fact he already knew what page the person
would pick?

It sounds too good to be true (so it probably is). But, if Derren
actually could do what he said he could, and it wasn't a trick,
imagine how useful it would be!!!!

Your thought welcome!
