Subject: Re: do John Edward and Collin Fry use cold reading???

Singhstealth,

I do watch both Colin Fry and John Edward, atleast three or four nights a week,
as well as James Van Praagh, and if you feel that one or all of them possess
the abilities they claim, then so be it. Having watched them, and also having
read many "proper" books and web articles (including the most excellent Cold
Reading by Ian Rowland), I'm inclined to conclude that it's unfortunate that
their "gifts" make it look like they are actually using Cold Reading.

Perhaps you would like to provide one solid example of the claim you make that
Colin Fry is so good. I for one would love to discuss it, so why not provide
those others who haven't seen the show with a verbatim transcript of one
reading, including a note of each and every edit point in the sequence. When
you transcribe this, be sure to note the intonation of Colin as he speaks (ie,
is he raising the end of a statement sentence to pose it as a question), and
any visual affirmations his subject makes, including nods, eye brow raises and
head shakes.

Then, compare his actual assertions with the post reading analysis from those
that have been read. This is where you will find you are being mislead the
most.

I personally have no idea if any of these mediums use hidden mics, ringers or
covert editing techniques to aid their (cold) readings, and there's no way I
can tell. All I can do is deconstruct what I am being shown, and as it stands,
I remain unconvinced of their validity. Some might say they are charaltan shit
bags preying on the vulnerable, but I couldn't possibly comment.

When we have a verbatim transcript to analyse together, perhaps we can all chip
in our thoughts, instead of basing our thoughts on hearsay and second hand
comment. If you're not willing to prepare one for us, then please say so, and I
will go and transcribe one myself.

See, all this skeptisism people have is exactly what I felt when I
saw John Edward after a while. But then I watched Collin Fry, he is a
whole different ball game, all the theories about mediums talking
quick and getting a 'hit' somewhere during the period where they talk
quick just cannot apply to Collin Fry. I just cant see him being a
fraud, the information or 'validations' as he calls them are such
that you cant find in records, family trees, the net etc. Its far too
specific, the only way to have gotten it is from family relatives
whom the shows investigators would have had to have bribed. And if
you have a fair amount of people working on a show based around a
fraud, one of them is going to speak out, and they have'nt-apart from
James Van Praag, even then the person believed him in some ways. If
you watch the shows rather then look at websites which will often
have crappy claims you'll begin to understand what I mean. I dont
100% believe it, but its a close call.
