I think I've finally managed to work out how to post to the board..
Thanks for the chat transcript killerb - nice to see Derren refer to
what he does as 'psychological manipulation'...I don't personally
think it matters too much what he claims; at the Mind Magic
convention last year he, and a panel including the producers and
Andy Nyman, discussed the claim at the start of MC1 that 'there
are no more magic tricks', or words to that effect, and Derren
stated that he hadn't wanted to do that, hadn't wanted to make it
that blatant.
Certainly the approach is better than that of a turbanned mystic,
who uses his uncanny extra sensory powers to reveal the
contents of envelopes, (rather than predicting the lottery
numbers and retiring), or an 'apologist' magician who removes
all elements of mystery from a performance by not allowing the
possibility of magic to breathe.
