My understanding of this segment is that it works upon common word
associations and that the 'force' is performed on the first toff, not
the last. Of course, I could be wrong....

For example, if someone were to whisper 'public' into your ear,
what would be the first word to pop into your head? I'm guessing it
would be 'private' for the vast majority of us, and maybe 'house' for
the more alcoholic amongst us. So, if you can force the word public
onto the first toff, then you are pretty much guaranteed that toff
no.3 will have the word private whispered into their ear. Of course,
this is a very simplified example, but think about how it can be
bolstered with covert influence techniques.

Basically, I think Derren is presenting them with the ILLUSION of
free choice when in fact they don't have one (statistically), in much
the same way as the chess master picking the mastermind colours....he
is aware of the statistical probabilities of a given choice, and he
also knows how to further tip the odds in his favour.

As for the toff woman's 'strange' voice, bear in mind that 1) she's
posh, 2) she's tipsy...they have all been drinking 3) she's probably
on valium or prozac or something.
