Thanks for the confirmation on the screaming thing - Derren's face in the flash
cut is quite funny actually.
As for the models warming to him - isn't the whole point of the segment
notioned in the intro to it? "I'm often asked if I can use my powers to get
incredibly beautiful women into bed ... well, yes I can" or something similar.
I say that the mind reading was an "added bonus" in that it was all part of the
demonstration. Just watch the way their body language closes and distances at
the start of the segment, when he is being cheesy, and how it opens up more and
more as time goes on, especially the person nearest to him. By having each of
his subjects imagine the things that they like in an initial approach, he is
associating himself with those feelings. The added bonus is that he then says
back to them what they are thinking, reinforcing the memory and anchoring it to
himself.
And the notion is echoed at the end of the show, on the talking heads, "I quite
fancy him actually!" which always makes me giggle, cos she was the person most
closed to him at the start.
