hi,
just a couple of points about David Blaine on JR.
1) Blaine is always saying that "stuff is in progress" or "I'm not sure if this
will work" he knows damn well it will work but it shifts the spectators
expectations of what is about to happen and makes the effect all the more
powerful. Pyschological techniques.......sound familiar?
2) The Needle did not grow, it was a real needle. The secret of the effect is
in the fact that he uses a acupuncture needle. These needles are very very
thin and non invasive, not big enough to cause any lasting tissue damage. How
did he do the effect..? he just shoved the needle through his hand.......that
simple.........

So... derren may be on johnny's show again... drat.
i say drat for this reason - i go out on fridays, and i would rarely
stay up late enough to watch the repeat on a saturday night... unless
of course id gone out again... not a bad idea...
No ria no you've done that before and regretted it!
Anyway i was just wondering - what do you think? good idea or bad
idea? Obviously good for us - we havent seen much of 'our' derren on
the tv lately - but what about derren?
Now i didnt see david blaine on the show, but already ive found out
that he put on air a trick that wasn't polished - in my experience,
it aint a good idea to perform something that you havent practised
and perfected - thats how you get skeptics in your midst.
But based on what you saw david do... do you think our clever lad
could fall into a similar trap? (please - dont drag up quotes from
agenda in performance or pure effect - i know already, just asking
for general popinion!)
personally I dont think so, but one can't help but wonder...
