Subject: Re: [Derren Brown] Re: new material
Thanks for taking the time to fill me in on the new stuff, dont be fooled by
card tricks though, his trick where someone names a card and he instantly
produces it from the pack is covered in his book pure effect. There are at
least 4 methods that I know of for appearing to memorize decks of card
without the use of any mnemonic techniques, although with the necessary
practice the mnemonics methods is the best by far cause it's real it is also
the slowest however. I would probably believe he was using the real method
if I hadn't seen him do his book memorisation routine. re banned from
casino's, Derren stated in MC1 i think that he is banned from all casino's
in his home town bristol - there aren't any casinos in bristol.
Working out how many cards have been picked out from a deck even when the
spectator doesnt know is also a dead simple card trick covered in a variety
of books including his own 'pure effect'
Which also contain a trick whereby the spectator shuffles the deck and
derren looking away names the cards in order, half way through the deck is
shuffled by the spectator again and again he continues revealing each card
before it is turned over. Having designed this effect surely appearing to
memorise a deck is the same trick with a different presentation.
the jail cell sounds cool i cant wait too see it, and the oxford university
also sounds interesting.
Thanks again for the write up
Phil
