There is an element of risk with any trick, but as Derren points
out, sometimes just being 'close' is enough to garner the sort of
reaction you're looking for. If you can get the number and colour of
the suit right, the actual suit itself becomes largely irrelevant,
simply the icing on the cake for more sophisticated audiences.

I would caution you about being too dogmatic as to whether or not
you copy Derren's force routines word for word....once you understand
how they work, it is easy to fool about with them and customise them
to your own preferred working style. I'm actually doing forces with a
Tarot set at the moment, which rather helps to double the 'spooky'
value!

Just a quick question for anyone who has seen the video....which
routines do you find more impressive? The 'invisible deck' routine or
the ones which use cards and let the audience member do the 'reveal'
by themself?

Although the invisible deck routine seems a lot more thought out
psychologically, contains many more components and seems like a more
realistic demonstration of 'mind reading' as there is nothing else to
read, I personally don't think you can beat the shock of the audience
member holding the card in their hand after they've removed it from
their pocket, gaping at it in a mixture of shock and awe.

Any thoughts?
