Subject: Indicators of Hypnosis

Hello, I know we have sort of given up on discussing if whether or
not Derren uses hypnosis .
Although people here from both NLP and Hypnosis domain areas, have
recognised key features of Derren's work that are contained and
described in books on both NLP and hypnosis. NLP word salad, Pattern
interrupt, anchors, locating an object, hand/arm locking ,
compounding of suggestions/effects etc. etc.

Remember the instantaneous induction (Pattern Interrupt Induction) of
the woman (remember the photograph of Derren with dogs). Or the
medical students with the induced anaesthesia.

Well I have not taped any of his shows, but I am sure that some of
the below observations of his subjects can be made, in order to
determine whether they are entering a state of `hypnosis' or hyper
suggestibility.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Lack of body movement, stillness
Pallid, waxen complexion
Rapid eye movements, eyelid fluttering
Redness around the eyes
Relaxed posture, slumping
Slowed breathing
Swallowing, gulping
Water or tears in the eyes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
(above is ripped of a website)

There are hypnotists who can just by indirectly talking and using
imagery, start to induce some of these above signs.
Derren, discussing the imagery and the past of the operating theatre
for example, may well have been using it as a method to help him to
deliver his suggestions in a more effective manner.

Like the shock induction of the woman, if you notice her face just
before Derren does his thing, I am sure it may have the frozen rabbit
in a headlight/worried look about it. Now I can't describe very
well, but I hope you get what I am talking about.

Derren may not have planned that shock induction, but may rather have
seen her physical signs as a cue. What do you think?

Cheers,
Gordon

P.S. I have only ever seen his shows MC2 and MC3 once and have never
seen MC1 therefore, I could be wrong. Anyway could someone comment
on the look of the woman's face and Derren's response. If
merely to correct me and my memory. Thanks.
