Subject: A problem with attempting Derrens tricks
I don't know about the rest of you but I have
been trying to recreate Derrens tricks by watching the
Channel 4 shows he does. I haven't got a copy of Pure
Effect or The Devil's Picture Book, but will be soon.
I once watched this program one of those magician
secrets revealed things, I usually stay clear of these
but it was about street magic especially the tricks
that David Blaine uses. I found out from this program
that there is a lot of editing involved that cut out
preparation of tricks so that they look even more spectacular
or even doing special effects like on the levitation
trick, on David's show it look like he rises about two
feet of the ground when in fact the trick only allows
a few inches in reality.
If they employ the same
editing techniques on Derren's shows then we are missing
the preparation of the tricks which are all
important, it's like watching the last twenty minutes of a
complex movie, you see the end result but have little
idea of how it got there.
I'm looking forward to
the live shows he will perform when he's on the road
so that I can see how the whole tricks is played
out.
