Subject: Derren Brown uses tricks?

Hi there,
Im one of the new guys on this
board because I was looking for anyone interested in
Derren Brown and the techniques he uses n stuff like
that. Cuz everytime I ask people near me about Derren
Brown they are like "Darren who?". Hehe they
st00pid

Im just wanting to know how many of you think that
what Derren brown does is just a bunch of tricks? I
suppose you've all heard of David Blaine. If you haven't
theres only one thing I have to ask you..where the HELL
have you been these past few yrs? lol

Well when
I first watched David Blaine I thought that his
magic was impossible. Throwing card in a window and it
being the chosen card, coughing up chosen cards. All
that fancy stuff. But then when I woke up from being
unconscious after id fainted (jus kiddin) I went n looked
into close up magic. And all the tricks he did were
mainly things to do with bitten coins, trick decks.
Props! And at the beginning of his show he said he
doesn't use props, fancy showgirls or elaborate sets.

Derren does something similar at beginning of his first
show. He showed us a trick and said that this was the
only trick we will see in this show. Was he using the
same technique as David Blaine?

Then theres
the fact that its on TV. If you've seen David Blaines
second show you would have seen him bring a dead fly
back to life. But if you watch that again, it shows
the shot of the fly in his hand and him saying "look
officer this is a fly you just swatted dead.." Making us
think that he had just killed it. But if u listen
closely you'll see its just a voice over and its been
dubbed to give that effect. Only on TV can you do
something like that. I don't know if Derren Brown has used
any effects like that yet, but it's a possibility
because its on tv. Just like David Copperfield making the
Statue of Liberty disappear. All just camera tricks.

So I think it's a bit dodgy how Blaines says he
doesn't use props, but does anyway. And Derren Brown says
that's the only trick we will see. Is it? And the fact
that its on TV and anything can become possible on tv
because of all the camera tricks, the sound effects etc.

But the types of shows are completely different.
David uses cards and coins and object for his tricks.
Something you can buy from any magic shop. Derren does
tricks with the mind. Its not as if you can buy that
from the Body shop. So it would be hard to trick
people. The only way I see you can trick people with mind
control on TV is by using actors. But why would they use
actors on a show which asks us to focus on the body
language, eye movement etc. They would have to be some
pretty damn good actors to give off certain signals at
the right time.

Personally, I think that what
Derren does isn't a bunch of tricks. I guess some people
think that 'I have to see it to believe it' because
with it being on the TV it is pretty hard to believe.
However what Derren does is all the mind. He doesn't use
no fancy props to make something look impossible.
Even David Blaine made mistakes but it doesn't show
that on TV. You just see the final product. On Derrens
show he does show of when things don't go exactly to
plan.

Anyway you could go on for hours saying
something and then going "yeaa but…"
I just think that
Derren doesn't use tricks because the mind would be very
hard to fake on TV without it being actors. Anywho
just wanna know what everyone in here thinks?
